About
Christian Beamish is a writer, craftsman, surfboard shaper, and all around adventurer who lives and works between Ventura and Carpinteria, California. His life reads like a novel because it essentially is one. He built an open hulled boat by hand and sailed it solo down the Baja Peninsula, surfing and camping along the way, an adventure he chronicled in his book The Voyage of the Cormorant.
While he can shape anything, he has a clear focus on Simmons keel fins, gliders, MR inspired twin fins, and Makaha style big wave guns. Deeply inspired by the surf history of California and Hawaii, his shapes blend past and present, drawing from influences like Brewer, Yater, and Parrish. He has also surfed Mavericks and developed his own signature fin template, the Beamish Twin, a hybrid keel design that sits somewhere between a classic keel and a modern upright twin.
Beyond shaping, he is an editor at the Coastal View News and was previously an associate editor at The Surfer's Journal. Christian Beamish is one of those rare people who does everything with total commitment, and his boards carry that same depth and intention.
